چکیده

The disk-wind scenario for the broad-line region (BLR) and toroidal obscuration in active galactic nuclei predicts the disappearance of the BLR at low luminosities. In accordance with the model predictions, data from a nearly complete sample of nearby AGNs show that the BLR disappears at luminosities lower than 5 × 10 (M/107M⊙) 2/3 erg s, where M is the black hole mass. The radiative efficiency of accretion onto the black hole is . 10 for these sources, indicating that their accretion is advection-dominated. Black hole mass and accretion rate of active galactic nuclei with double-peaked broad emission lines

Using an empirical relation between the broad line region size and optical continuum luminosity, we estimated the black hole mass and accretion rate for 135 AGNs with double-peaked broad emission lines in two samples, one from the SDSS and the other from a survey of radio-loud broad emission line AGNs. With black hole masses in a range from 3×10M⊙ to 5×10 M⊙, these AGNs have the dimensionless a...

Broad-line region size and black hole mass in high-z AGN

In this contribution we brie y review the reverberation mapping technique and its results for low and intermediate luminosity AGNs. Then we present a monitoring campaign of high-luminosity high-redshift quasars which will extend these results by two orders of magnitude, probing the broad-line region size and black hole (BH) mass of luminous AGN at redshift ∼2-3.

Estimate black hole masses of AGNs using ultraviolet emission line properties

Based on the measured sizes of broad line region of the reverberation-mapping AGN sample, two new empirical relations are introduced to estimate the central black hole masses of radio-loud high-redshift (z > 0.5) AGNs. First, using the archival IUE/HST spectroscopy data at UV band for the reverberation-mapping objects, we obtained two new empirical relations between the BLR size and Mgii /Civ e...

Black hole mass estimation with a relation between the BLR size and emission line luminosity of AGN

An empirical relation between the broad line region (BLR) size and optical continuum luminosity is often adopted to estimate the BLR size and then the black hole mass of AGNs. However, optical luminosity may not be a good indicator of photoionizing luminosity for extremely radio-loud AGNs because the jets usually contribute significantly to the optical continuum. Therefore, the black hole masse...

Weighing black holes in radio-loud AGNs

Because of the contamination of jets, using the size – continuum luminosity relation can overestimate the broad line region (BLR) size and black hole mass for radio-loud AGNs. We propose a new relation between the BLR size and Hβ emission line luminosity and present evidences for using it to get more accurate black hole masses of radio-loud AGNs. For extreme radio-loud AGNs such as blazars with...
